The Venus De Milo Lapis Ring is a sterling silver band set with a lapis lazuli stone and carved with the figure of the Venus de Milo, the armless Greek marble of Aphrodite found on the island of Milos in 1820 and held since in the Louvre. The carving follows the statue's stance, the torso turned and the drapery falling from the hips. The figure is copied with its arms missing, exactly as the marble survives, so the damage is reproduced rather than repaired. Aphrodite, called Venus in Roman myth, stands for love and beauty, taken here as a piece of sculpture rather than as a religious object.
