It is signed, numbered and dated by the artist on the reverse Printing studio: Handdruck Loeding & Sturm, Hamburg Verena Issel creates spatial installations, sculptures, films, drawings, and wall objects. She sometimes creates strange, dangerous, or humorous scenarios whose sociopolitical references unfold a haunting seriousness at second glance. Issel often works with felt, which she uses in a variety of ways and combines with other materials. For the Berliner Filz edition, she applies the motif to a felt background using a classic woodcut. She then refines the experimental printing technique, which she developed herself, by felting the objects by hand. In this way, she not only prints on felt, but also paints with felt, as it were. Verena Issel schafft Rauminstallationen, Skulpturen, Filme, Zeichnungen und Wandobjekte. Sie lässt mitunter sonderbar, gefährlich oder humorvoll anmutende Szenarien entstehen, deren gesellschaftspolitische Bezüge auf den zweiten Blick eine eindringliche Ernsthaftigkeit entfalten. Issel arbeitet häufig mit Filz, den sie auf unterschiedlichste Weise einsetzt und mit anderen Materialien kombiniert. Für die Edition „Berliner Filz“ trägt sie das Motiv mit einem klassischen Holzschnitt auf einen Filzuntergrund drauf. Die experimentelle Drucktechnik, die sie selbst entwickelt hat, verfeinert sie anschließend, indem sie die Objekte von Hand filzt. Sie druckt damit nicht nur auf Filz, sondern malt gewissermaßen auch mit Filz.
