Vernaldehyde is a fresh, green aldehyde with a bright outdoor-air character. Underneath the aldehydic top sits a cool, dewy green freshness and a light waxy-citrus edge. The overall effect is airy and clean, closer to spring air than to the fatty aldehydes of the C-10 to C-12 range. Use it in muguet, lilac and freesia for a sense of open-air freshness. In citrus colognes it reinforces the top and keeps bergamot from collapsing. It also pairs well with cedar, vetiver and Iso E Super, adding a cool lift to woody bases. Overdose it in a chypre to update the aldehydic top, where the green reads cleaner and more modern than classic C-10 or C-11. A trace lightens a heavy amber without weakening its warmth. It also refreshes a muguet base that has lost its lift.
