We will share our experience. Verona® is a cold-hardy red wine grape developed by renowned grape breeder Tom Plocher, Minnesota. Selected for its exceptional winter hardiness, late bud break, and outstanding wine quality, Verona has become a valuable variety for growers in northern and continental climates. The vine produces large clusters of blue-black grapes that develop excellent color, balanced acidity, and abundant tannins, making it well suited for premium red wine production. One of Verona's greatest strengths is its late spring bud break, which helps reduce damage from late frosts. The vines are productive, moderately vigorous, and capable of withstanding winter temperatures as low as -32°C to -35°C (-26°F to -31°F). Wines made from Verona are deeply colored and complex, often exhibiting notes of raspberry, dark fruit, chocolate, and spice with excellent structure and aging potential. Verona performs best in full sun and well-drained soil. Its combination of cold hardiness, disease tolerance, and wine quality makes it an excellent choice for commercial vineyards and serious home winemakers in northern growing regions.
