A chance meeting with a book inspired Versos, a new collage series by artist Leigh Wells. After reading the Japanese book documenting the work of a prolific Ikebana artist, Wells s et to work within a strict framework, taking each photographic book page and combining it with one or more other pages to create compositions of spatial ambiguity and illusion. Spontaneous and highly controlled—like much of her work—this group showcases these contrasting qualities, producing superb compositions that are both thought provoking and visually stimulating.
