The cliff rising nearly vertically from the clear cool morning waters of the eastern shore of Kootenay lake creates the perfect fishing spot. Light may bathe the rest of the lake, but the sun is only now making its way over the top of the edge of this wall of rock. The single tree, gripping on to nearly bare rock, reaching for the sun as it reaches its zenith, inspires me. Standing in the boat, craning my neck to see, I am the opposite of the tree - unstable footing, floating and slowly rotating with the gentle current. I am transient and fragile, respectful of the tenacity and longevity I see above me. Show more
