A blend of gin, our own vodka, Cocchi Americano and Lillet Blanc. Bottled and aged for at least six weeks. Allergen: quinine Vegan: Yes Ian Fleming wrote the Vesper for Bond in Casino Royale in 1953, and had him specify it at length to a barman who had not asked. It is the only cocktail in the canon invented in a novel and then adopted by the world. Fleming's version called for Kina Lillet, which no longer exists. Lillet Blanc is its closest living relative, and we cut it with Cocchi Americano to put back some of the quinine bite the original had and the modern bottling lost. Our own vodka sits underneath the gin rather than diluting it. This one is not a freezer drink. There is no water built into the recipe, so it needs the water that ice gives it: stir it over ice until it is properly cold, then strain into a chilled coupe with a thin slice of lemon peel. Stirring is a serve, not a build. There is still nothing to measure and nothing to add. Vesper Lynd was a double agent. The drink named after her is less complicated than she was and considerably more reliable.
