PLATTSBURGH FLAG – WAR OF 1812 Also known as the “Veteran Exempts Flag,” this design was carried by a New York militia during the War of 1812. Many of the men were Revolutionary Wa r veterans who were technically exempt from service due to age, yet volunteered to fight again. The skull and crossbones symbolized a willingness to face death, while “Don’t Tread On Me” reinforced their resolve.
