Oslo Håndverksdestilleri (OHD) started life in 2015 and was created with one goal in mind; to create exceptional quality artisanal spirits. The products they produce resonate with distilling traditions dating back to pre-1927 and encompass rich Norwegian botanicals from the surrounding area, namely the river Alna, situated near Norway’s capital city. Vidda (Silver – IWSC London Dry Gin, 2017) is OHD’s take on a traditional London Dry Gin, and it’s a cracker. ‘Vidda’ means ‘mountain plateau’ and ‘Tørr’ means ‘dry’ – this gin does just what it says on the tin! If you’re after a floral gin then look no further. All botanicals have provenance from the surrounding Nordics and complement each other exceptionally well. The nose is reminiscent of pine forests and densely packed wild flowers. To taste there’s prominent juniper, spice and continuing floral notes. The finish is crisp yet subtle with hints of violet. Botanicals include Juniper, heather, yarrow, chamomile flower, bilberry, angelica root, meadowsweet, sorrel, calamus root, elderflowers, pine shoots. Serving suggestion: double measure of Vidda accompanied by an elderflower premium tonic and squeeze of lime.
