This mix mostly just contains Cowpeas (Vigna unguiculata) with a few Rice Beans (Vigna umbellata) mixed in. Contributions came from 18 growers across the US. Such a wide range of d iversity & colors are represented in this mix, from Black Eyed Pea types, a few Yard Long Bean types, Bush types, Vine/pole types, all mixed for maximum diversity of the Vigna unguiculata species. The rice beans (V. umbellata) belong to subgenus Ceratotropis & therefore don't cross with cowpeas (V. unguiculata) which belong to a different subgenus Plectrotropis. Rice beans are very easy to tell apart from cowpeas by paying attention to the seed hilum (The "Bellybutton" of the bean seed), Rice beans have longer seed hilum that stick out more vs Cowpeas have shorter seed hilums that don't stick out much.
