Comprised of 85% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 1% Carmenere, Emilien in Château le Puy's main-production wine. Wild fermented (something that is unfortunately not incredibly common in Bordeaux) in cement vats, the wine was then transferred to spent oak barrels for a year of maturation before being bottled unfired and unfiltered (also rare for Bordeaux). This is a succulent and sappy red with awesome energy, showing what Bordeaux is potentially capable of if they just got out of their own way. Everything about Château le Puy is rare and uncommon in Bordeaux. It is a château with a continuous, 400 year, 14 generation, single-family ownership that is unmatched in terms of both lineage and conviction. They are organic. They are biodynamic. They are the rare Bordelaise wines which show, yes, craft and complexity, but also a sense of a soul. While many Bordeaux châteaux have continued to hone and hone away at their wines until they display such perfection that it seems like an robot may have made them in a lab rather than human hands, Le Puy still feels grounded in its human-ness.... a true piece of art. 14.5% ABV
