One of the truly traditional winemaking bodegas found in Rioja, R. Lopez de Heredia has spent the last 130 years carrying the torch for "the old ways" all while revolution has raged around them, and that sticking to their guns has allowed them to establish themselves amongst some of the greatest wines on the planet, including the legendary 'Viña Tondonia Gran Reserva'. Their 'Viña Cubillo' is their take on a "Crizanza," or table wine. Its a blend of Tempranillo and Grenache produced from 40 year old vines in the Viña Cubillas vineyard, which in the hands of any other bodega could easily be marketed as Gran Reserva. Aged three years in oak prior to release and clear, bright garnet-ruby in color, the wine shows cherry, herbal mint, leather and licorice. Firm and juicy with a vibrant core and almost chalky tannins. 13.5% ABV
