c. 1950s-1960s; Mayline Company, Inc. - Sheboygan, WI Modular four-stack flat file cabinet constructed of oak and designed for the storage of architectural drawings, blueprints, maps, artwork, and other large-format documents. The cabinet consists of four individual five-drawer sections stacked upon a matching base and topped with a removable finished top. Each drawer retains its original metal pulls, brass label holders, and Mayline manufacturer's plaques. The modular construction allows the cabinet to be separated into individual sections for transport, reconfiguration, or alternative use. Founded in 1939, Mayline became one of America's leading manufacturers of drafting furniture, blueprint storage systems, and professional office equipment, supplying architects, engineers, and design firms throughout the twentieth century. Shows moderate wear consistent with age and professional use. Surfaces exhibit scattered scratches, abrasions, finish wear, edge wear, and minor areas of discoloration throughout. The top surface displays scattered dings, impressions, and finish imperfections from use. Drawer interiors remain clean and serviceable with expected age-related wear. Hardware exhibits light oxidation and patina. Cabinet retains a warm, well-preserved finish overall and presents attractively. Included with the cabinet is an additional finished top panel as photographed. At the buyer's discretion, the extra top may be paired with one of the drawer sections to create a separate coffee table, storage table, or low flat file unit.
