2022 2 of 3 available Photography on Poly-cotton Canvas, Handmade Frame Triptych ‘Virtues - Sanctity, Abundance & Deliverance’ features three veiled figures wearing handmade headdresses made from various collected specimens, including Shearwater Bird Skulls washed up during migration on the central coast of NSW. Drawing on religious iconography from the late Italian Gothic and the early Renaissance, each virtue seeks to highlight the prevalence of the divine feminine, examining the power of femininity in embodying both the delicacy and beauty of nature and of mortality. Divided into three central concepts, Sanctity, Abundance and Deliverance, these virtues seek to underpin the permeance of these feminine virtues within our current political and social contexts. Joseph’s Virtues won People’s Choice at the Hornsby Art Prize 2022, and was also been a finalist in the Du Rietz Prize 2022.
