Your lawn is green. But it doesn't look like much. Not dead. Not patchy. Just dull. A washed-out, thin colour that looks average no matter what you put on it. That is usually not a feeding problem. It is an iron problem. Iron is essential to chlorophyll production, and it is one of the most commonly deficient nutrients in Australian lawns. In alkaline and sandy soils in particular, iron either leaches out or locks up in a form the plant cannot access. You can keep adding nitrogen and the lawn will grow, but it grows in the wrong colour. Vivid puts iron where the plant can use it immediately. On the leaf. What it does A foliar colour formula built on iron, as ferrous sulphate, with nitrogen from urea. Applied to the leaf surface rather than the soil, so the iron is absorbed directly and does not have to survive the soil chemistry that makes ground-applied iron unreliable across much of Australia. Colour response is typically visible within 3 to 5 days. Vivid is the iron-led product in the program. Surge is the nitrogen-led one. Vivid contains nitrogen as well, so expect some growth response, but the ratio is built around colour rather than push. Application rate 200 to 400ml per 100m2. Mix into 5L of water. Apply evenly across the leaf surface. Leave on the leaf for 2 hours before watering in. Apply early morning or late afternoon when temperatures exceed 30 degrees. Can be mixed with Surge in the same tank pass. Rate guide: 200ml: regular colour maintenance 400ml: deeper colour enhancement or colour recovery 100ml: reduced winter rate for May, June and July Apply every 3 to 4 weeks through the growing season, and monthly at the reduced rate through winter. 1L covers 250 to 500m2 at the standard rates. Do not apply Vivid on the same day as Impala fungicide. The ferrous sulphate in Vivid is incompatible with Impala. Leave at least a day between them. What to expect Days 3 to 5: First signs of colour deepening, particularly noticeable in lawns that have been dull or washed out. Days 5 to 7: Rich, deep green colour established across the lawn. Weeks 2 to 4: Colour held through the application cycle. With consistent use: Cumulative improvement in overall lawn appearance that compounds over a season. Why foliar iron works when soil-applied iron hasn't Iron applied to the soil has to stay in a form the plant can absorb. In alkaline soils, which cover a lot of Australia, it often does not. It oxidises and locks up, the lawn stays pale, and the assumption is that the lawn needs more fertiliser. Applying iron to the leaf skips that problem. The plant takes it up directly through the leaf surface, which is why the colour response is measured in days rather than weeks, and why it works on soils where ground-applied iron products have disappointed. It is also why Vivid is useful in winter. Growth slows in the cooler months, but iron demand does not stop. Run it at the reduced 100ml winter rate to hold colour without pushing soft growth the lawn cannot support in cold conditions. Complete the program Vivid works harder when paired with the full two-layer approach. Most lawns need both layers to see results that hold. Vivid contains nitrogen alongside the iron, so some growth response is normal. It is formulated to lead with colour rather than growth, which is the difference from a standard fertiliser, but it is not a colour product with no growth effect at all. What is the difference between Vivid and Surge? Surge is nitrogen-led and drives growth, density and recovery. Vivid is iron-led and drives colour. They are designed to be applied together as the leaf layer, and most lawns benefit from both. Is Vivid good for winter? Yes. Growth slows in cooler months but colour does not have to. Use the reduced 100ml per 100m2 rate through May, June and July to maintain colour without pushing growth the lawn cannot sustain in cold conditions. Can I mix Vivid with Surge? Yes. Surge and Vivid are the two leaf-layer products and are designed to be applied together in a single pass. One sprayer run covers both. My lawn is pale and thin, will Vivid fix it? Vivid will improve colour. But if the lawn is thin as well as pale, there is likely a soil or root issue underneath that needs addressing first. Soak, Vital, and Surge as the foundation layer will make Vivid perform noticeably better. Will iron stain concrete or pavers? It can. Iron products stain hard surfaces if left to dry on them. Apply carefully and rinse any overspray from concrete, pavers and painted surfaces straight away. Will this work on my turf type? Yes. Works across buffalo, kikuyu, couch, and zoysia. How long does one bottle last? At 200 to 400ml per 100m2, a 1L bottle covers 250 to 500m2. For a standard suburban lawn that is a full season of monthly applications at the maintenance rate. Is it safe for kids and pets? Yes. Safe once dried after application and watered in, typically within a couple of hours. READ SDS SHEET View the complete 12-month Turf & Surf program guide →
