A Brazilian native that lives up to its reputation as a spectacular foliage plant called ‘The King of Bromeliads’, is nothing short of spectacular when grown to its full potential. Wide leaves (to over 6 inches when mature) are a lovely green, marked with chocolate-brown reticulations. At maturity it may reach an impressive four feet in diameter, but is a slow grower. This plant, unfortunately, is being stripped from the forests surrounding its native Rio de Janeiro, where it is much in demand for landscape use.
