Based on the design of the Wagata-bon, a traditional tray style handed down in the Kaga region of Ishikawa Prefecture, this piece is crafted from Jindai Japanese hackberry wood. Th e Wagata-bon originated in the Edo period, created by woodworkers in Wagata Village (present-day Yamanaka Onsen), and is characterized by its hand-carved texture and rustic simplicity. The deep tone of the ancient Jindai wood—transformed over centuries underground—blends beautifully with the smooth grain of the Japanese hackberry, giving the piece a tranquil and refined presence.
