Waikiki Reef began during a short trip from Maui to Oʻahu. From Ala Moana, Lance had a long view toward the Waikīkī skyline, but the finished work required a perspective the park b ench could not provide. The camera moved above the peninsula and the final panorama was constructed from 21 photographs. At approximately 296 megapixels, the resulting file holds an extraordinary amount of information across the coast—from Diamond Head on one side of the field toward Honolulu Airport on the other. Small figures, surfers, reef structure, buildings and shoreline features remain identifiable inside a photograph designed to become physically enormous. This is exactly where technical construction and artistic intent meet in Lance's practice. The resolution is not presented as a specification for its own sake. It allows the finished work to behave differently at architectural scale. From a distance, Waikiki Reef is one sweeping coastal field. Approach it and smaller stories begin emerging throughout the panorama.
