Waltham 29 is an open-pollinated broccoli variety bred by the Agricultural Research Station in Waltham, Massachusetts and released in 1951. Bred to be a fall cropping variety, Walt ham 29 performs best when planted in mid to late summer so that it will mature just as the first frosts arrive. It can, however, be grown in the spring so long as it is planted early enough to mature before the summer heat sets in. Plants produce 4 to 8-inch central heads followed by numerous side shoots.
