An interesting upright shrub that displays oval grey-green toothed leaves and domed clusters of small fragrant white flowers in late spring, which are followed by red fruits, that ripen to black in the autumn. Growing Conditions:Grows in any moist but well-drained soil. Value To Wildlife:Birds eat the berries and insects such as hoverflies feed on the nectar. The leaves are a good food source for a number of moth caterpillars. Important Note:This is a deciduous tree and so will shed its leaves in autumn, in order to protect itself from the cold winter weather.
