This half timbered building stands on the River Stour, with the water lapping the walls! It was inhabited by Flemish and Hugenot weavers who fled from religious persecution in the 16th century and set up businesses. Behind the house is a medieval ducking stool used to punish suspected witches; after being held under the water for several minutes, if she survived she was deemed a witch. If she died, she was cleared of the accusation! Show more
