Wedgwood creamware Franklin Bowl made for Bailey, Banks & Biddle featuring a distinctive scalloped edge. A cachepot (pronounced cash-po) is a decorative outer container used to hid e plain, utilitarian nursery pots. The name stems from the French word cacher (to hide) and pot (pot). They typically have no drainage holes and are meant to catch excess water. On one side, a portrait of Benjamin Franklin designed and engraved by Charles Willson Peale, surrounded by the text: HIS EXCELLENCY B.FRANKLIN L.L.D. F.R.S. PRESIDENT OF PENNSYLVANIA, & LATE MINISTER OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AT THE COURT OF FRANCE On the other side, an image of the statue of Young Franklin by Robert Tait McKenzie with a text from his autobiography: "I have been the more particular in this description of my journey, that you may compare such unlikely beginnings with the figure I have since made there." On the inside, an image of the home of the American Philosophical Society, founded by Franklin in 1745.
