Three Weld On Steering Coupler Types Available Any of these splined pinion couplers may be used to achieve a proper and secure connection between a steering shaft or drive unit and the steering box for the Stiletto 5/8-36 Spline (when a U-joint is not desired). Note: Welding should always be performed by a qualified welder. Split-Bolt Coupler: Part # C42-355 and # C42-355-B Provides positive clamping on the splines, plus the added security of the bolt passing thru the retaining groove located on splined area of the pinion. When space or weight savings is a primary concern, the Dual-Lock coupler or Straight coupler are other options to consider. Machined from 1018 mild steel Dual-Lock Coupler: Part # C42-403-A and # C42-403-B The Dual-Lock Coupler has two set screws with locking nuts offset 90 degrees from each other. This dual set screw design draws up the connection, thereby eliminating the potential of undesirable lost motion with normal spline clearance. To prevent spline deformation the locking screws are positioned to lock down in retaining groove located on splined area of the pinion. Machined from 1018 mild steel Straight Coupler (Part # C42-353-B) This coupler has no built-in retention provision; the installer will need incorporate a security method of locking the coupler to the male pinion for the specific application. Machined from 4130 N Chromoly Stiletto Steering Spline is Unique The pressure angle of the Stiletto 5/8-36 pinion spline is unique to Stiletto Steering found on the 6.4:1, 10:1, 12:1, 15:1 Ratios of Stiletto Rack and Pinions. This proprietary spline design will not accept other manufacturers attempts to replicate the Stiletto 5/8-36 pinion spline. Their failed attempts result in parts that they claim to fit Stiletto - but won't. GM (OEM automotive) splined components that share the 5/8-36 spline callout - also will not fit. Simply stick with all genuine Stiletto Steering components and you will be fine. The splines in our couplers and U-joints are precision broached to the correct profile and size for the Stiletto 5/8-36 pinion spline. We inspect and test fit each part 100% - we guarantee they will fit correctly.
