This Edition Hatje Cantz is an unusual and touching photo portrait of a male person of colour, standing up to his shoulders in the ocean, looking sceptically into the distance and out of the picture. It not only addresses - the socio-political situation in the USA depicted in the book - against the background of structural racism and abuse of power, but also stands for the globally prevailing power structures, crises and migration problems of our time. This edition was produced in connection with Kris Graves' new project Privileged Mediocrity the (photo-)documentary testimony of US-American society in portraits, landscape photographs and urban situations, and to what extent systematic injustice, racism and inequality shape current society and its understanding of history.
