During this workshop, you will learn how to spin your own yarn, as well as how to care for and use your wheel. Students do not need to have a wheel to participate (but if you do have one bring it along!) - this is a great way to start to explore if spinning yarn on a wheel is right for you through watching demonstrations and testing out your skills on the shop wheels. Teaching ArtistKeira Wiggins is a Jersey City-based textile designer specializing in yarn dyes and color development. She makes hand-dyed and carded fiber and yarn as well as handspun yarns. Skills + MaterialsThis is a beginner workshop and no previous experience is needed to participate. If you do have a spinning wheel or access to one, you can use this class to (re)orient yourself so bring your wheel along! Students without a spinning wheel will have a chance to try our shop wheels. Workshop supplies are included in the fee - you will have plenty of fiber to play with in class and take home! All students receive a 10% student discount, which can be used on supplies and even big equipment if you are interested in purchasing a wheel. You may always transfer your registration to another student (just let us know in advance!). If you need to cancel your registration within one week of the workshop we are happy to offer a 50% store credit refund; cancellations made less than one week in advance will not be refunded. We are unable to offer make-ups or exchanges for missed workshop session(s). Student DiscountStudents get a one-time 10% student discount that is active at the first workshop session and expires two weeks following the final workshop session.
