The taster was the beginning. This is where you actually learn to throw. Six hours of instruction spread across two consecutive days, focused on the techniques that underpin almost everything made on the wheel: wedging, centering, opening, and pulling up. The work is repetitive by design. Muscle memory takes time, and there’s no shortcut to it. You’ll spend a significant portion of the course throwing cylinders — not because they’re the most exciting shape, but because a consistent cylinder is what everything else depends on. Towards the end, you’ll cover turning and trimming: how to refine a form, remove excess clay, and add a foot ring. Two or three of your pots will be fired at no extra charge. You’ll also be invited to a glazing session five to six weeks later to finish your work at the studio.
