Drawn from the experience and memory of a family visit to the Otway Ranges and the immersion in nature it provided, Rob McHaffie’s ‘While We Rest the Forest Grows’, 2025 is a seren e and tender vision of what might happen after, when the hike is over. Resting within the safety and luxury of their eco-accommodation, the couple are repaired and soothed into peaceful relaxation, with gratitude for the continued generosity of the natural world. In this print, the artist uses the painterly effects of the lithographic process, which relies on the principle that grease and water repel each other, to achieve beautiful washes of colour that bring a sense of tenderness to his linear drawing style.
