Whiskers About This Image: Surprise. On a very cold winter's morning on the north side of the pier, Todd was treading water in the middle of a pack of surfers, hoping to capture some images of wave riding. Out of nowhere, a dark marine animal darted toward the pack of humans, creating a small wake from his quick movements. The animal was focused on Todd's water housing and made a beeline in between the surfers (who were paddling away, as the identity of the creature wasn't yet known) to Todd, not slowing down. When the beast was maybe 6 feet away, it was obvious that he was a seal. Todd, knowing that he wouldn't get this chance ever again, took portrait images of the seal as it continue its charge to the yellow water housing. The seal made a quick turn to its right about 6 inches from Todd and brushed his chest as he swam by. And Todd's first seal portrait session was accomplished!
