An embroidered patch badge featuring Whitby Abbey. Whitby Abbey was a 7th century Christian monastery established in 657 AD. The abbey was situated overlooking the North Sea on the East Cliff in Whitby, North Yorkshire. The abbey and its possessions were confiscated by the crown under the reign of Henry VIII between 1536 and 1545.
