The ends of the bindweed grow anticlockwise to anything it can cling onto, it loves fields hedges, wild areas in fact once it’s established it is very hard to get rid of; the plant and in particular the seeds are poisonous. So why use this for a birthday card? Well like most wild flowers I think it is extremely beautiful, its twining persistence could be seen as something that could represent permanence and togetherness and its colour purity and innocence. It is also very lovely to paint. I have kept the background simple and it’s a great exercise in transforming washes. Best wishes Billy x Show more
