They are typically harvested at a diameter of 2-3" and are known for being resistant to becoming woody. The mild flavor is perfect for eating raw or cooked. Planting Instructions: Direct sow turnip seeds in early spring or late summer. Plant seeds 1/4-1/2" deep, 1-2" apart in rows spaced 12-18" apart. Thin plants to avoid overcrowding. Keep soil moist, but avoid over-watering. They prefer a well-draining, fertile soil. Seed Saving Instructions: They should be planted at least 1000 feet from other Brassica rapa varieties to maintain seed purity. Turnips are biennial, so they will flower and set seeds in their second year. Allow a few turnips to overwinter and in Spring, they will produce yellow flowers and seed pods.
