White HorseMixed Media Textile Summer blue sky and fields of golden corn sandwich the undulating rolling Wiltshire downs where you can find the vale of white horses carved into the lime chalk hills. Design shows a textile artwork of layered mixed fabrics, including hand dyed, using hand appliqué techniques and a variety of embroidery stitches including the wonder French knot! It features the hill top coppices, Landsdowne Monument and Cherhill White Horse. While I recreated this landmark and magical place through fabric and thread, I found myself lost in my memories, love, warmth and deep rooted sense of belonging it evoked. Looking at it with fresh eyes the sense of freshness and space to breathe, the vibrancy of colour and precision of stitches worked conjure the essence of peace, calm, freedom and hope while being a tiny part of the land’s history.
