Tall, stately shade trees are favorites of wildlife and foragers alike, as their acorn crop is low in tannins. Do pay attention to soil type for this tree, and match it best with well-drained, acidic soils of moderate fertility. Growth is slower than other native oaks, but once established, a tremendous root system lends good drought tolerance.
