Why This Watch Matters Few brands do mid-century elegance better than UG, look no further than this White Shadow. The Full Story When we think about Universal Genève today, most will associate the brand with the Compax chronograph or the Gérald Genta-designed Polerouter. However, the White Shadow line showcases another facet of the brand, a dressier side embodied by the use of slim, stainless steel cases, that were also designed by Genta, early in his career. The case of this watch has a rounded, tonneau shape, offering the best of both worlds. Round cases are universally appealing, but this one has a bit more poise to it, with more of a barrel shape, a look that saw a resurgence in the 1960s and '70s. The silver-tone brushed dial on this example really sets it apart. We have seen these White Shadows with a bunch of different dials but few pair with the Genta case shape as well as this one. Additionally, there's a useful date window at three o'clock. The automatic caliber 2-67 that is housed inside the attractive case design is just as interesting, with a proprietary micro-rotor helping achieve the overall slim profile of 7.5mm. This watch would look just as great on the wrist of a seasoned enthusiast as it would on a budding watch collector. The case remains strong with some light scratches and all of the correct finishes. The case appears to be unpolished. The caseback retains its original finish and the case and reference numbers are still visible. There are light scratches to the rear of the lugs from strap changing. The dial and hands are in great condition, with a touch of very light patina across the board. The dial is overall clean with a few minor imperfections when inspecting with a loupe. The hands and hour markers have developed a light patina. The dial, case, crown, and movement are signed by UG. The crystal has a few imperfections or scratches.
