The print of The Whitefish was drawn by H.L. Todd and was originally published in the 1884 edition of the "The Fisheries and Fishery Industries of the United States". It was the fi rst book in a multi-volume series produced by George Brown Goode, the famed ichthyologist (fish scientist), Smithsonian museum administrator, and U.S. Fish Commissioner. He managed a large staff of scientists, researchers, and clerical employees to produce this monumental work on American Fisheries.
