Unlike First Aid, it provides the knowledge and skills to effectively manage major trauma - as such can be caused by gunshot wounds, encounters with dangerous wildlife, off road vehicle accidents etc. Students are taught how to approach and assess casualties, prioritize their treatments, and provide life saving interventions such as stopping major bleeds, maintaining airways, and preventing or addressing hypothermia. The bundle includes two courses on hypothermia and one module on cold water submersion and survival. The knowledge and skills taught in these courses were largely developed in war over the last two decades, where it was found that the use of these interventions on the battlefield greatly increased the survival rate of wounded soldiers.
