First introduced in our Mystery Knit Along with Pam Allen, the Winging It cap is knit in our alpaca/wool blend, Plover. The idea for this cap emerged from two converging inspiratio ns. The first was an image of an elegantly elongated cap featured in Knitting in the Nordic Tradition by Vibeke Lind (Lark Books, 1984), a style Pam had long admired and hoped to reinterpret. The second spark came directly from Plover itself. Once Pam began sampling the yarn and saw how effortlessly it carried colorwork, she returned to the book and rediscovered the traditional double pap and suddenly, everything clicked. The double cap construction begins at the peak of the inner hat, shaped with increases before being worked even to the base. The outer hat is then knit on larger needles, creating a comfortable fit over the lining. Shaped with decreases to a pointed peak and finished with a tassel, the result is a cap that feels both timeless and bold—an affectionate nod to Nordic tradition. Show more
