Winter Scene Composition, playing with paint and dry brush. In this tutorial we explore quite a few different principles and approaches. We have a little dive into composition, with plenty of considerations for turning a photo into a good painting. With this we look at how to make the most of a strong focal point, using light and shadow to draw the eye. This also frees us up to play with the paint elsewhere. We cover the usual techniques in further detail but there is a lot of opportunity to explore the “dry brush” technique in this subject. A very useful way to use the brush and paint in watercolours. Other than this we focus on the usual approach to look for and painting light shadow, how to bring the painting together and those all important finishing touches, including using opaque white right at the end.
