Wiregrass is a warm-season grass flowering in late spring with a slender seed bearing panicle. Seeds have three spreading awns. It grows on well-drained sandy types of soil and full sun or part shade sites. We purposely left approx 8% of the native wildflowers in the wiregrass for quail food. Wiregrass grows best in full sun to partial shade. Please note during the harvesting process we choose to keep the Wiregrass as "bulk material." This means the materials have not been de-awned, de-bearded or conditioned. This is the best and most natural type of seed to plant for field and restoration plantings. So do not be surprised to see some pieces and stems mixed in with the seeds on this variety, but know that we thrash, scalp, and sift this once harvested to get it as fluid as possible.
