Flowering freely from May to June, this summer stalwart is famed for its superior fragrance and cottage-garden appeal. After flowering, the plant becomes covered with velvety brown seedpods, which are highly attractive in their own right. The luscious, shiny green foliage of Wisteria sinensis will cover archways, pergolas, walls and sturdy fences. It's traditionally been used on the walls of large houses, lending to its chocolate-box reputation. Even in winter, when the woody vines become bare, the plant retains its rustic charm and architectural appeal, making this a climber with true, year-round interest.
