Every version of the story shows the change happening in the same place. Ovid's Lycaon drops to all fours and the poem lingers on his mouth. Medieval tellings watch the jaw lengthe n. The films hold on the face while the brow thickens and the ears climb. Hands and posture follow later, but the face is where the audience is always asked to look, and the face is all this mask sets out to be.Silver, grey and blackFur runs across the whole surface in fine strokes, pale down the centre of the forehead and along the bridge of the muzzle, darkening to near black around the eyes and out towards the rim. That rim is cut into points rather than a smooth curve, so the mask reads as a ruff. Two ears rise at the top corners. Below the black nose the lip is drawn back off a row of small teeth with longer canines at the front, and the eye openings are cut long and angled, which is what sets the scowl. The oldest costume there isWorn faces are older than almost any other kind of dressing up. Carved and painted masks appear in ritual across the ancient world, long before anyone wrote a werewolf down, and they were doing this same job: swapping one identity for another for the length of an evening. The grey wolf itself wears much the same palette.Size and shapeThe mask measures 23 x 27 cm and weighs 35 g. It stands on its own or works as the face of a full wolf costume, with further silhouettes in the wolf mask collection.Free worldwide shipping, 7 to 12 business days. 30 day returns.
