The howl, held at its peak A wolf howls with its head thrown back and its muzzle tipped up, which lifts the sound clear of the ground and lets it carry for miles across open country. This panel catches the animal at exactly that moment: neck stretched, jaw open, the body cut into broad sweeping shapes rather than fine detail, so the whole silhouette reads from the far side of a room. Picking a colour for the hour Bold shapes hold colour more strongly than fine lines do, and this design fills a good part of the panel, so each of the sixteen settings changes the mood of the shelf it stands on and not only the lamp itself. The turquoise it is photographed in has the flat cold look of moonlight on snow. Green and violet make it stranger. Warm amber at a low intensity is the one for late in the evening, when cool white overhead has begun to feel like the middle of the afternoon. The remote handles the switching from wherever you are sitting, and the four flashing modes are there when a steady glow is not what you are after. If the sound itself interests you, our piece on why wolves howl goes into it properly.
