Wolfschmidt Vodka 200ML is a multi-grain American vodka bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof) in a portable 200ml format. With roots tracing back to 1847 and over 37 medals earned across international spirits competitions, this expression has quietly maintained relevance in a crowded vodka landscape. Quick Facts: ABV: 40% (80 Proof) | Origin: USA | Style: Multi-Grain Vodka | Producer: James B. Beam Distilling Co. (Suntory Global Spirits) Production & Heritage Wolfschmidt traces its origins to 1847, making it one of the oldest vodka brands to reach the American market. The brand is now produced domestically by James B. Beam Distilling Co., a subsidiary of Suntory Global Spirits. The vodka draws from a broad mashbill of grains including wheat, corn, rye, and barley, with potatoes also contributing to the base spirit. This multi-source approach, run through a traditional distillation process, gives the finished product its notably clean, slightly sweet character. Unlike single-grain vodkas that lean on one flavor profile, the blended grain base here adds subtle complexity beneath the neutral surface. Tasting Notes Aroma: The nose is predominantly clean and neutral, opening with a gentle white pepper spiritiness. Behind that initial grain-driven note sit faint wisps of menthol and aniseed that give just enough aromatic interest without overwhelming. Taste: On the palate, entry is soft and slightly sweet, with a suspected glycerine-like richness contributing to a silky mouthfeel. The mid-palate develops a distinct cracked black pepper spice, while subtle hints of mint and aniseed thread through toward the peak. The overall impression is remarkably clean for its price tier. Finish: The finish is pleasingly sweet with lingering cracked black pepper warmth. It fades at a moderate pace, leaving a dry, lightly spiced impression that avoids the harsh burn common in budget vodkas. How to Drink Wolfschmidt Wolfschmidt performs well chilled and served neat or over ice, where its silky texture and subtle sweetness come through cleanly. Its neutral-leaning profile also makes it a dependable cocktail base. A Moscow Mule highlights the vodka's peppery undertones against ginger beer's bite. A Vodka Martini lets the faint aniseed and menthol notes emerge alongside dry vermouth. A Vodka Tonic keeps things simple, with the spirit's inherent sweetness balancing the quinine bitterness effectively. Best For Stocking a portable bar for travel, tailgating, or outdoor events Sampling a historic American vodka brand without committing to a full bottle Mixing reliable cocktails at home when a clean, neutral base spirit is needed Keeping a compact bottle on hand for impromptu gatherings Frequently Asked Questions What does Wolfschmidt taste like? Wolfschmidt is a clean, slightly sweet vodka with a silky mouthfeel and prominent cracked black pepper spice, followed by subtle hints of mint and aniseed. The overall profile is neutral and smooth with just enough character to distinguish it from purely flavorless spirits. How does Wolfschmidt compare to Smirnoff? Both are affordable, widely available American-produced vodkas, but Wolfschmidt tends to be positioned at a slightly lower price point. Where Smirnoff leans toward a lighter, more overtly neutral profile, Wolfschmidt delivers a touch more sweetness and a noticeable black pepper note on the palate. Is Wolfschmidt good for cocktails? Yes — its clean, neutral character and silky texture make it a solid mixer that won't compete with other cocktail ingredients. The subtle sweetness and pepper spice can actually add a mild backbone to drinks like Moscow Mules and Vodka Tonics. Where is Wolfschmidt made? Wolfschmidt Vodka is a product of the United States, produced by James B. Beam Distilling Co., which operates under the Suntory Global Spirits umbrella. The brand's heritage dates back to 1847, and it is recognized as one of the earliest vodka brands introduced to the American market. What foods pair well with Wolfschmidt? Smoked salmon or cured fish, where the vodka's pepper notes complement the brine. Pickled vegetables and charcuterie boards work well alongside its clean sweetness. Dark rye bread with butter is a traditional Eastern European pairing that suits the grain-forward base. Mild soft cheeses like brie benefit from the silky texture as a palate cleanser. What sizes does Wolfschmidt come in? Wolfschmidt Vodka is available in multiple formats, including this 200ml bottle as well as standard 750ml and 1L sizes, making it accessible for different occasions and needs. Is Wolfschmidt worth the price? Wolfschmidt positions firmly in the value tier, competing directly with budget vodkas while delivering a noticeably smoother, more textured drinking experience than many spirits at comparable price points. For everyday mixing or casual sipping, it represents strong value for money. Why Wolfschmidt? Wolfschmidt's strongest differentiator is its multi-grain and potato mashbill, an uncommon approach at the value tier that produces a silky, subtly complex spirit rather than a one-note neutral vodka. The brand's heritage — stretching back to 1847 and recognized as one of the first vodkas introduced to the American market — gives it historical weight that few competitors in this price range can claim. Over 37 international competition medals attest to consistent quality that outperforms expectations for a budget expression. Backed by the production resources of James B. Beam Distilling Co. and Suntory Global Spirits, Wolfschmidt delivers a level of refinement that punches above its weight class in the value vodka segment.
