The Woodruff key is a small semi-circular metal key that locates the crankshaft pulley in the correct rotational position on the crankshaft snout, preventing the pulley from slipping under load. On the 200Tdi engine used in the Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic, a missing or sheared Woodruff key will cause the pulley to rotate independently, leading to loss of drive belt function and potential timing reference errors. Replacement is required any time the crankshaft pulley is removed or if slippage damage is found on inspection. Key Features Semi-circular Woodruff-profile key designed to seat in the machined keyway on the crankshaft snout Should be inspected for wear or shearing whenever the crankshaft pulley bolt is removed Correct fitment is essential before torquing the crankshaft pulley bolt to specification One key required per engine; replace the crankshaft pulley bolt at the same time if it has been loosened Vehicle Fitment Fits Discovery 1 (1989–1998) and Range Rover Classic with 200Tdi engines, and Series 2, 2A, and 3 Land Rovers with 2.0 litre Diesel and 2.25 litre Petrol engines.
