Georgian Bay is famous for its stunning turquoise- blue waters, especially around the eastern shore and the Thirty Thousand Islands region. The striking colour comes from a mix of: Limestone bedrock: The bay sits on part of the Canadian Shield and the Niagara Escarpment. Where the limestone is exposed, it reflects sunlight in a way that gives the water a bright aqua-turquoise glow. Clarity: Georgian Bay’s waters are remarkably clear compared to many lakes, letting sunlight penetrate deeper and bounce off pale rock or sand below. Depth changes: Shallow areas over pale stone look bright turquoise, while deeper sections shift into a rich sapphire blue.
