Another stellar release courtesy of Music From Memory. Once again MFM has dug deeper than the rest for brilliant, yet forgotten vibes of the past and this time it's a selection of tracks from the St. Louis outfit Workdub (aka Virgil Work Jr. and Nicholas Georgieff) that gets the 12" treatment. The group only produced three releases (the notoriously elusive Workdub I from 1989, and the cassette-only Workdub II and Workdub III from 1992 and 1995 respectively), and MFM has selected the best cuts from each for this special release. From Music From Memory - "Surrounded by an immense array of synthesizers and drum machines Nick Georgieff would experiment with rhythm programming, midi, digital effects and sound synthesis whilst Virgil would create intricate rhythm patterns for each song; in which he would also play various drum, percussion and synthesizer parts by hand. Together the pair combined ambient music with driving percussive rhythms and melody to create a very ethereal dubbed out instrumental sound of their own which moves between funk, new wave and industrial music." If time travel were possible and you could get Miles Davis, Wally Badarou, Kraftwerk, and Larry Heard in the studio at the same time, it may very well sound something like this.
