Sergers can feel a little intimidating at first — all those threads, loopers, and tension dials! But once you learn the basics, they can make your sewing faster, cleaner, and more professional-looking. In this beginner-friendly workshop, you’ll learn how a serger works, how to thread it, and how to create clean finished seams and edges with confidence. We’ll also cover tension basics, differential feed, and simple maintenance like cleaning and changing needles. Students will gain hands-on experience creating basic overlock stitches while becoming more comfortable using a serger. Depending on class pace and timing, we may also demonstrate additional techniques such as rolled hems. Materials & Machines:No materials are needed for class. We have sergers available for classroom demonstrations and practice. Students who would like to bring their own serger are welcome to do so, provided the machine is currently in good working order and includes all necessary foot pedals, power supplies, and manuals. We also ask for advance notice so we can ensure it is a machine the instructor is familiar with. Perfect for sewists who own a serger they haven’t quite figured out yet — or anyone curious about adding one to their sewing toolkit! To help create the best classroom experience possible, a minimum of 3 students is required for class to run. If minimum enrollment is not met, students will be notified in advance and may transfer to another session or receive a refund/store credit.
