It's the perfect solution for separating finished castings from cocoons, baby worms and unfinished material. This allows you to harvest a valuable soil amendment while safely returning the worms and unfinished material back to the composter. Sifting the contents of your vermicomposter before harvesting also has several benefits to keep your system productive. Sifting prevents gases from decomposing material from building up and bedding material from clumping or compacting. Furthermore, sifting aerates the bedding for happy, healthy worms. The worm casting sifter has a permanent 1/2" and 1/4" screen that overlap to ensure that only finished castings are harvested. We recommend filling the basket half full when sifting, as the contents can be heavy. Care & Maintenance: To keep your garden sifter in good shape, regularly apply lubricant (like DW-40) inside and outside of the lid and screens.
