Laura and Vassar brought these home from Mexico and they has been turning heads ever since. Hand-coiled from dried pine needles by a skilled artisan, a technique practiced in the m ountain regions of Mexico for generations...the basket begins at a tight spiral center and radiates outward in concentric rings of extraordinary patience and precision. The scalloped, open-work border is where the real artistry shows: looped and braided pine needle flourishes that frame the piece like lacework, each one formed entirely by hand without a mold or pattern. The warm, natural tones range from pale straw to deep honey depending on the age of the needles, and the variation across the surface is the kind that only comes from natural material and human hands.
