Wretched Fate is a stand alone adventure set in the Maharaja campaign setting which is based on East Indian mythology and culture. Most player characters in this setting are Rajanni, a servant warrior caste set below the ruling noble warrior caste, the Kshatriya. The Rajanni answer to the Kshatriya, and must follow their every command, except in one regard: no Kshatriya can command a Rajanni to act against their Dharma (religious duty). Dharma is the central spirit of the culture of Naya Aadesh, informing each soul of it's personal duties, from the lowliest sweeper of the streets to the wealthiest Maharaja ruler. For the Rajanni, Dharma is service in protection of the land of Naya Aadesh, in particular the byways of water and road and those regions not held by the feudal Kshatriya. In Wretched Fate the Rajanni are sent by their captain, under request of the Raja of Lagore (the nearest city) to investigate the cessation of reports from the Kshatriya lord of the small town of Alimak. This town resides on the border between the holy home soil of Naya Aadesh and the cursed wastes of Azumaat'Ati. This ancient land is rumored to have been ruined by by Asura sorcery and the worship of demons, and now the Azumites are slavers and worse. It is worried that Alimak may have been subject to a desert raid, and the Rajanni must deal with whatever aftermath they encounter. About this Adventure The adventure begins on the road into a dusty and barren north western province of the land of Naya Aadesh, the arid Maksharif. This dry region suffers under yearly droughts, making the area prone to terrible dust storms and times of thirst. Cities and villages along the border have weathered these harsh conditions, but things have become worse, and it has been months since tidings have been heard from the border town of Alimak. As the Autumn sum sets over Maksharif, the beleaguered town remains isolated, it's wretched fate unknown. Worse still, travelers have come to the capital of the region, bearing ill news. They report that upon passing through Alimak, they observed that the peasants in the area are carrying arms, and also that contrary to custom, the local Kshatriya lord was unavailable to grant them audience and passage. The local Raja has commanded the Rajanni adventurers to respond to this, and find out if the town has fallen to slavers, is in open revolt, or worse. The heroes must investigate and subdue any evil that may be brewing in the desperate desolate borderlands. Wretched Fate is a Pathfinder Roleplaying Game compatible adventure for four to six players of levels 7-9.
